Hedges Family Estate is, in a word, gorgeous. It sits atop vineyards surrounded by manicured gardens. It's styled like a French chateau thanks to French native Anne-Marie Hedges. Tom and Anne-Marie were early to settle on Washington's now famed Red Mountain. In fact, they had a lot to do with it becoming famous. Hedges spearheaded the project to get the AVA established and were key in touting Red Mountain's unique "terroir". Their savvy business acumin and international style really dressed up Red Mountain.
They have 2 areas to taste wines, the main Chateau where the Estate wines are tasted, and a building off to the side where the CMS brand wines are poured (no fee). The focus here is premium red wines, although their CMS white blend is super delicious. There is a small area for relaxing to enjoy the view, but probably not the best stop for a lunch or hanging out. It's a great winery to tour if you want to see a medium sized production facility. I always make a stop at Hedges when I come to Red Mountain for good red wine and the amazing view.
