I have over six years experience guiding visitors around Washington wine country. I have had the pleasure of planning, coordinating and executing wine tours for groups of from 1 to 80 people, for 5 hours to a week long and have visited hundreds of wineries in Washington, Oregon and California.
It has always been my goal to get my clients in front of the people who grow the grapes and make the wine. Which wineries and vineyards I take my clients to depends on their taste in wine and what type of experience they seek. I know what’s out there… it’s just a matter of matching them up. I’ve written details about the wineries that I think will help visitors decide which wineries to visit based on their interests and budget.
I started my career in the wine industry at Ray’s Boathouse in Ballard, Washington. Ray’s is a Seattle institution with fine dining and an extensive wine program and where I first learned about wine. Our sommelier held regular tastings for new wines so the serving staff could speak intelligently about them to diners. I just fell in love with the wines and the entire experience. When I learned that there were over 100 wineries in Washington State (back in 1998), I made it my goal to visit every one of them. I was so enthusiastic about sharing my experiences with others and I had to find some way to turn it into a career. The idea for Washington Wine Tours was born.
Then I learned of a job opening at the Washington Wine Commission, where Ray’s ex-colleague Jamie Peha was the Marketing Director. Jamie understood that I wanted to eventually open my touring business and invited me to learn about the industry at the Commission for a year and then begin. And so after working on such premier wine events as Taste Washington and the Auction of Washington Wines, I started Washington Wine Tours.
I had an amazing six years guiding wine enthusiasts around Washington wine country. I spent time with the top winemakers and grape growers in the state and had a few famous clients such as The Far Side’s, Gary Larson and Sara Matthews, wine country photographer and author of Washington, The State of Wine coffe table book. Although this website is not meant to replace official winery information or be inclusive, I have included information here that I hope assists people to craft their own wine tour and live the passion that wine ignites. Please be safe in your travels and check the Washington Wine Tours Blog for the latest Washington state wine tour news. Cheers!
