Washington State boasts the highest quantity in the production of premium wine in the United States second only to California.
Sandy, volcanic soil, perfect moisture conditions, and a summer sunlight average that is even greater than that of its southern competitors, make Washington State a natural place to grow such wine grape varietals as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Chardonnay and Sangiovese.
According to Washington Wine Commission, there is a new winery opening in Washington every few weeks.
